Exit Oxiris?

-

Mayor de Blasio says he hasn’t spoken to Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot for a couple of days but will chat this weekend about her comment that she doesn’t “give two rats’ asses about your cops.” Will he finish up with a pink slip?

Barbot’s words about the men and women who keep our city’s neighborhoods safe are inexcusable.

In March, as the coronavirus took off in the city, the NYPD urgently requested 500,000 face masks. But, as The Post’s Larry Celona, Julia Marsh and Bruce Golding exclusively reported, Barbot said she could only offer 50,000 — along with the offensive “I don’t give two rats’ asses about your cops” explanation.

She apparently dropped the insult in a phone call with NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan, adding: “I need them for others.”

In the end, the department got 500,000 masks from the Department of Health’s stash after appealing to City Hall.

The cop unions are calling for her firing. Pat Lynch of the Police Benevolent Association also suggests she has to “look in the eye of every police family who lost a hero to this virus. Look them in the eye and tell them they aren’t worth a rat’s ass,” he said.

The NYPD has suffered dozens of coronavirus deaths and thousands of cases. At the very least, Barbot owes every one of its 55,000 members a craven public apology.

Maybe the mayor doesn’t want to ax his health commissioner amid the pandemic. But if he’s gone days without talking to her, how vital can she be?
