Charitable exit

JESSICA Mulroney has been forced to quit the charity she founded with her sisters-in-law amid the scandal that has also dissolved her friendship with Meghan Markle. Mulroney has stepped down from the Shoebox Project following her damning comments to black influencer Sasha Exeter. Jessica, who is married to Ben Mulroney, son of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, co-founded the charity — which distributes shoeboxes filled with goods to homeless or at-risk women — in 2011 with Caroline, Vanessa and Katy Mulroney. Caroline is the Ontario minister of transportation and minister of Francophone affairs, and married to financier Andrew Lapham, son of former Harper’s editor Lewis Lapham. Vanessa is a former Condé Nast editor who now runs a fashion branding agency, and Katy is a high-powered financial analyst. In a statement, the charity said: “In light of recent events, the charity supports Jessica’s decision to step away from the Board of Directors.” Last week, Exeter shared a series of messages in which Jessica allegedly threatens to sue her after Exeter called for greater support for the Black Lives Matter movement. The controversy led to the stylist being fired from gigs on “Good Morning America” and reality show “I Do, Redo.” Page Six reported that her friendship with Markle had been on the outs for some time, as the Duchess of Sussex had become increasingly wary of her using her royal connections in her work.
