SLAY IN YOUR LANE
Jacqueline VanDusen biked more than 4,000 miles to cover every block in Brooklyn. As she finishes her epic project today, here are three routes she recommends to see the gems the borough has to offer.
THE 50-MILE LOOP
This circumnavigation of Kings County is not for the faint of heart. But on the plus side, it promises experienced cyclists stellar breezes off the water for most of the ride. From VanDusen’s neighborhood of Williamsburg, she set
out to ride alongside the East River and New York harbor, where piers and other pit stops offer prime vantage points of the Manhattan skyline (above). Pedal onward, under the Verrazzano
Bridge, to Bay Ridge and Gravesend before hitting the sandy shores of Coney Island (left). Pass seaside bungalows in Gerritsen Beach and waterfront mansions in Mill Basin.
After Canarsie and East New
York, turn inland to teeter along the Brooklyn-Queens border back to Williamsburg.
THE BREWERY TOUR
VanDusen’s “boozin’ by bike” tour kicks off at
Kings County Brewers Collective, at 381 Troutman St., in Bushwick. The first to operate in the neighborhood for more than 40 years, KCBC (above right) operates a 5,000-squarefoot warehouse and taproom. From there, careen to East Williamsburg hoppy spots Grimm (990 Metropolitan Ave.) and Interboro
Spirits and Ales (942 Grand St.). Next up, Threes Brewing in Greenpoint (113 Franklin St.). After that, ride due southwest, parallel to the East River, until you hit Transmitter Brewing
(right) at the Brooklyn Navy Yard (141 Flushing Ave.). End the day with happy hour at Finback
(545 President St. in Gowanus). All stops offer their brews to-go and adhere to the city’s social distancing and outdoor dining mandates.
