He had a need for speed — but went nowhere fast.

An alleged thief took off in a $120,000 Maserati GTS from a Manhattan dealership on Friday, but didn’t take city traffic into consideration when he planned his getaway, police said.

Mave Grey somehow got behind the wheel of the white ride, which was parked in Maserati of Manhattan’s showroom at West 54th Street and 12th Avenue, and peeled off sometime before 8:30 a.m. But he didn’t make it very far. An eagle-eyed worker spotted the souped-up sports car — which can zip from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds — with its engine running and Grey allegedly in the driver’s seat outside a service-area exit.

The employee approached, but Grey gunned it, only to get caught at a red light 500 feet away at West 54th Street and 11th Avenue, cops said.

When the worker confronted him, the driver allegedly climbed out and handed over the keys in defeat before running away.

Other employees caught the alleged thief on 11th Avenue between West 55th and 56th streets and held him until cops arrived.

Grey, 30, was charged with grand larceny of a vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Police said he has at least 15 prior arrests, including for alleged car thefts, burglary and trespassing.

The theft was the second this week for Maserati of Manhattan, which reopened on Monday after being shuttered for three months amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A two-door SQ4 valued at $87,000 was swiped overnight Thursday and was reported missing that morning, police said.

The keys to that vehicle had been left in the center console, cops added. It hasn’t been recovered.

The dealership provided surveillance footage to police that allegedly shows the suspect — a woman with blue hair wearing a sports bra.

Over the last four weeks alone, more than 630 car thefts were reported in the city — up 56 percent from the same time period last year, according to NYPD CompStat records.
