Blas’ BLM Street Stunt: No Fix for City’s Problems

-

In the midst of the pandemic-induced economic disaster plaguing New York City, de Blasio felt the need to pander to the Black Lives Matter anarchists and embarrass Trump by painting a BLM mural in front of Trump Tower (“Boos for Blasio at 5th Ave. BLM mural,” July 10).

While this publicity stunt may have earned him a headline in The New York Times, it risked the ire of the president, from whom he will need a bailout to keep the city solvent.

While de Blasio cracked a few eggs to make his omelet, he may have killed the golden goose that lays them. Jack Kaufman

Once again, de Blasio has sparked outrage, this time by painting “Black Lives Matter” in front of Trump Tower.

The mayor has overseen the demise of a once-great city. He and his hateful rhetoric must be silenced.

We need a leader in New York who cares about all of us. How this inept fool was voted in is beyond my comprehension. Everyone should be livid at his antics. JoAnn Anastasi

I care deeply about black lives in this city. I doubt our feckless mayor does. He is more invested in painting murals on Fifth Avenue, spending money that we don’t have and weakening the Police Department.

The crime rate has soared, which has resulted in the loss of many black lives in this city. Don’t you get it, Mr. Mayor? No, I guess not. Martin Garfinkle

The BLM street painting in front of Trump Tower is a desperate bid by de Blasio to blame Trump for his failures as a mayor.

It’s a cowardly act by someone who won’t take responsibility for what has ruined the city these past few months.

De Blasio has proven himself a worthless leader and just another sleazy politician.

Our mayor has once again erased any doubt of his inability to lead this city.

He closed off Fifth Avenue to have multiple “artists” create this work of protest.

Now he has to go to Trump and beg him for funds because the city needs the money due to COVID-19. You just cannot make this stuff up. City Council, Gov. Cuomo: Where are you? Bill Isler Queens

I want to know why city taxpayer money is being used to graffiti city streets. Manhattan is in a shambles, there is no support of our police, businesses are struggling to get up and running and lawlessness prevails.

But the mayor ignores

all quality-of-life issues in order to spend time and money to show the world how much he hates Trump. It’s pitiful. Pat Sullivan

With many pressing problems facing New York City, Mayor de Blasio’s priority is a Black Lives Matter photo-op in front of Trump Tower, designed to give him the national attention he couldn’t muster for his presidential campaign.

The fact that the mayor had Al Sharpton, who knows better than anyone how to fan the flames and take advantage of racial unrest, stand next to him emphasized the untoward lengths to which the mayor will go for the attention he covets. Donald Nawi

Our streets are not de Blasio’s personal Twitter account. Painting a BLM mural in front of Trump Tower serves no cause but his own.

As the Sasquatch of City Hall busies himself with squandering our dwindling resources on sophomoric one-upmanship with the president, the hobbling of our Police Department has created a perfect storm in which recidivist criminals brazenly flout the law with impunity.

Meanwhile, righteous opposition to police brutality has been co-opted by anarchists in protesters’ clothing.

At a time when people can’t seem to agree on anything, the mayor has united all New Yorkers in gratitude for term limits. Gary Taustine
