A Tragic Death in Brooklyn: Cost of Pols’ Cop Contempt

-

THE ISSUE: A Brooklyn woman killed after trying to handle her fireworks complaint without the police.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is in a quandary: On one hand, he demands proof that the police are performing their duties, citing instances of officers not responding to jobs (“Adams’ Deadly Advice,” Editorial, July 21).

As a contradiction, he recommends that people talk to their neighbors about nonviolent acts rather than call the authorities.

Following that instruction, a constituent attempted to quell illegal, noisy fireworks, which resulted in an improper response by street thugs harassing the neighborhood. The tragic victim was improperly advised. John Gargiulo

Adams supports moving funds from the police to other city departments, and he told people not to call the police.

Then suddenly people get killed on his watch, and he wants to know where the police are.

Somebody tell this man you can’t have it both ways. He’s an irresponsible borough president elected by the people. Now you’re stuck with him. Vincent Conti

Adams wants to know if cops are doing their job. The answer is yes.

The problem is Adams, the City Council, our incompetent mayor and governor. They have all failed to support good policing.

They disbanded successful crime-prevention units and supported the insane no-bail law. Our crazy mayor sends police to watch over a painted street, while violence is out of control.

These ultra-liberal progressive politicians show no respect for police, and now they’re surprised crime is out of control.

People are leaving the city by the thousands because of the mess created by de Blasio & Co.

We are losing our city to criminals and gangs while our inept politicians stand by and do nothing. It is a very sad and dangerous time in this once-great city of ours. Gene Lindsay

Well, Adams, one beautiful young woman took your advice and talked to those lighting fireworks. Now she is dead — shot dead by the perps you told her to talk to. Her blood is on your hands.

It wasn’t bad enough that she was chased and shot once, but while laying on the ground the person emptied his gun into her — a total of eight times.

People are realizing that elected officials do not know what they are doing. RIP, Shatavia Walls. Kim Cody

Adams is a piece of work. First, he exhorts constituents not to call police about dangerous, illegal fireworks but instead talk face-to-face with those who shoot them off.

Now his “heart goes

out” to the family of the murdered Shatavia Walls — allegedly shot eight times and executed by a psychopath, who took offense with her for having followed Adams’ sage advice. Then, Adams criticizes police for not doing their job.

The Post in its reporting refers to Adams as a “presumptive 2021 mayoral candidate.” God help all of you in the Big Apple if the day ever arrives when Adams is elected to that lofty position. Charles Winokoor

The next time anyone in Brooklyn has a gripe about illegal fireworks, they should call Adams to come talk to their offending neighbor.

Shatavia Walls drank the borough president’s Kool-Aid and, not surprisingly, died as a result. To borrow from Cindy Adams: “Only in New York.” Gary Schwartz

Kudos to Borough President Adams for calling out cops for not doing their job.

They are pouting like a bunch of 6-year-olds throwing mud in a sandbox. Bob Birge

Adams’ advice proves deadly — so does his anti-cop rhetoric. It’s beyond the pale that he blasted the police department but keeps his security detail.

This imbecile’s “talk to your neighbors” nonsense caused a young woman to be murdered, and we hear only garbled noise from the talking heads who run New York. It’s a sad time for the city. Kevin Judge Naples, Fla.
