A Shameful Barr Grill: Dems’ Petty Hearing Antics

THE ISSUE: Attorney General William Barr’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.

-

Led by the poisonously partisan Rep. Jerry Nadler, the attempt by the House Judiciary Committee to bully Attorney General William Barr by having one member after another smear and silence him at Tuesday’s “hearing” was a disgrace by any measure (“Truth wins the day,” Michael Goodwin, July 29).

The apex, or nadir, of this outrageous circus was when Nadler tried to deny Barr a five-minute bathroom break.

Unruffled, the alwaysdignified Barr replied wryly to Nadler, “You’re a real class act.” Indeed.

The grandstanding Democrats’ treatment of Barr was rude, arrogant, disrespectful and ignorant.

They did not give him a chance to respond, often spoke over him, did not grant him a break and each Democrat sounded as if reading a poorly written term paper that had no legitimacy.

It is apparent that the apples don’t fall far from the tree. In this case, the tree is House party leaders who just sit back and watch, then complain. Beverly Meil Scranton, Pa.

I had to stop watching that farce of a hearing. Most of these representatives were disrespectful and grandstanding.

It was embarrassing to watch. Barr was not even given a chance to respond because if he was, he would have shredded their rants to pieces.

He is a brilliant and honorable man who is being vilified. The meanspirited Nadler is despicable. Joanne Mirone

God bless the attorney general. What he endured at the hearings was so unacceptable.

To not let him answer or respond to their bully statements was completely immature. Clearly, they didn’t want to hear the truth.

I applaud Barr for his restraint — to say he has the patience of a saint is an understatement. You are admired and respected. Stay well. Theresa Curley

It was just embarrassing to listen to Nadler’s conduct and “questioning” of Attorney General Barr at Tuesday’s hearing.

His partisanship is obvious, he has trouble even reading his own “questions,” and of course, he and the other Dems just gave rambling statements and refused Barr the opportunity to respond. This should not be how a hearing is run. Harold Fishman

Perhaps “the Barr hearing” is the wrong description for the travesty that took place — since the obnoxious Democratic representatives made it all about themselves.

Each of these pompous bozos took every opportunity to attack the AG, as they snidely reminded

him that they were the ones asking the questions.

Barr was not allowed to get out his answers before the questioners interrupted him, rudely reminding him that this was on their dime.

Their disrespectful treatment of the attorney general will forever mark them as buffoons who live in their own fantasy world, with no respect for the millions of Americans who seek something more than what they put on the table. Paul Alexander

I would like to thank Michael Goodwin for another excellent column as he continues to excoriate the forces on the Democratic left who are trying to take down our republic.

There are no longer any moderates in the Democratic Party. The Barr hearing was an absolute disgrace. As Mr. Goodwin noted, they insulted and demeaned the attorney general.

I believe it was William F. Buckley who commented that we could get better representatives by picking people randomly from a phone book. Let’s start now.

Nadler has done it again: He has made a complete fool of himself and his Democratic Party by attacking and trying to destroy Barr.

Barr’s integrity stayed intact as he deflected Nadler’s lies and phony myths, and made a fool of the Democrats. Nadler and his whole party should be ashamed.
