New protocols for NFL

The NFL’s chief medical officer says the league is establishi­ng a new two-step protocol for players and coaches who have no known history of the COVID-19 infection and receive a positive test.

Dr. Allen Sills said Friday any individual in that situation who is also asymptomat­ic will be given two confirmato­ry tests on the day following the positive test result. Both confirmati­on tests are nasal swabs, Sills said.

RB Guice arrested, cut

The Washington Football Team announced that it had released running back Derrius Guice after he was arrested on domestic violence charges. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the 23-year-old Guice faces three charges of assault and vatery, one count of destructio­n of property and a felony account of strangulat­ion.

Maple Leafs force Game 5

In Toronto, Auston Matthews scored on a power play 13:10 into overtime and the Maple Leafs rallied from a three-goal deficit in the final four minutes of the third period to beat the Blue Jackets 4-3, tying the best-of-five series at two wins apiece.

Liberty win first game

Kia Nurse scored 17 points and the Liberty (1-5) gave head coach Walt Hopkins his first career win with a 74-66 victory over the Washington Mystics in Bradenton, Fla. Cubs-Cards series ppd.

The entire three-game series between the Cubs and Cardinals at Busch Stadium was postponed after two more St. Louis players and a staff member tested positive for the coronaviru­s.

Travers, Hambo on tap
