Rolling solo in hotel

-

WHEN Claridge’s in London was closed for the first time in its history dating to 1856, Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones saw an opportunity to shoot their latest video, “Scarlet,” there. The video stars Paul Mescal, of the BBC/Hulu series “Normal People,” tipping back drinks and spinning wildly through the hotel’s black-and-white lobby, jumping down the grand staircase and eventually landing on the floor. Sources told us that the clip was shot over three days. The video was unveiled Thursday on YouTube, preceded by a video chat between Jagger and Mescal. “I thought you were going to kill yourself when you jumped down the stairwell,” Jagger said of the clip. “So did I,” admitted Mescal. The video’s new, but the song is not: It’s an unreleased 1970s track that’s going to be on an anniversary box set celebrating the group’s classic, “Goats Head Soup.” Jimmy Page plays guitar on the track recorded in Ronnie Wood’s basement. Page Six reported last month that the band has been working on new material via Zoom during lockdown, which Jagger confirmed by saying of quarantining, “I think it’s not been too bad, because we were sort of halfway through an album . . . we released a song called ‘Ghost Town’ that was one of the songs that we were working on that we finished off. And now I’m in the middle of doing vocals on some of the other ones, trying to finish those off, and then write some new ones as well. So it’s not so bad for musicians.”
