500 Hours Down the Drain: NY’s Dirty Shampoo Plan

THE ISSUE: A proposed law that would require shampoo assistants to complete 500 hours of training.

-

The bill to license shampoo assistants makes no sense, especially considering the costs involved (“Hair-Brained,” Editorial, Aug. 16).

Making it so expensive to become a shampoo assistant in New York would put immigrants in particular at a tremendous disadvantage, since shampooing is one of the few jobs in New York that doesn’t require experience or Englishspeaking skills.

As The Post’s editorial states, “Licensing shampooists has nothing to do with public health and safety and only serves to raise barriers to entry and generate more tuition for cosmetology schools.”

Whatever happened to the claims by the Democrats that they are so concerned about the welfare of their immigrant constituents?

Thanks to Jon Levine for exposing the fact that self-dealing and greed are alive and well within the Democratic-controlled Assembly (“Trade board bigs eye own $$ cut,” Aug. 16).

Shame on Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner for putting the interests of her and her friends ahead of struggling salons, many of which have either closed or are barely surviving due to the pandemic.

I read in Sunday’s Post of a new scam pushed by the board chairman of New York State’s Division of Licensing Services.

Michelle D’Allaird-Brenner is proposing that people who work in saing lons washing hair would need to take a 500-hour course at a cost of thousands to be able to continue in their chosen profession.

There are four members of the licensing board, and amazingly three of them have ties to beauty schools. You cannot make this stuff up.

The three amigos stand to make many millions of dollars if they can get this sham through the corrupt New York state Legislature.

At what point will the people of this once-great state wake up and oust these miscreants and the people who put them in power? Start at the top.

This new barber bill gives new meaning to the term “cleaning up.” The tuition can cost $13,354 with 10 months of class time.

Not only will this new bill create unnecessary additional fees and licensing headaches for shampooing employees, but it will also trim customers’ wallets when they go in for a haircut, as costs will increase and be passed on to them.

Lo and behold, not surprisingly, the people who would benefit from this law are also the ones tryto pass it, since several of the lawmakers have a stake in beauty schools or are associated with them.

Isn’t this a conflict of interest? How about showing some kind of moral compass, which is becoming as rare as an honest Democrat in New York state?

“Soaked” is a nice way of putting it. Just when I thought self-serving Democrats couldn’t possibly behave more despicably, I read Sunday’s Post.

In the midst of a global pandemic that has triggered one of the worst recessions in global financial history, the state of New York and a few of its many wonderful, bluestate legislators are proving once again that brains, honesty and integrity are not prerequisites for holding office.

The beauty industry has been hit awfully hard by the fallout from COVID-19, and it’s infuriating to see what these doubledealing bureaucrats are trying to get away with, under the guise of protecting the public. How egregiously cynical. Joseph DeRubeis

These Democrats want shampoo assistants to take 500 hours of training in order to wash hair!

EMTs must only complete 120 to 150 hours of training to obtain certification in New York state.

This law would be stealing money from those who can least afford it. Albany “lawmakers” ought to be ashamed of themselves. Meredith Wright
