Breeland suspended

The Chiefs will be without starting cornerback Bashaud Breeland for the first four games of the season because of off-thefield issues earlier this year, according to AP.

The suspension, which was first reported by ESPN, has long been assumed after Breeland was arrested in April on multiple charges that included resisting arrest, marijuana possession and driving without a license.

Smith returns to the field

After breaking the tibia and fibula in his right leg, undergoing 17 surgeries to repair them and surviving a life-threatenin­g infection, Washington quarterbac­k Alex Smith is back on a football field with his teammates. He’s taking snaps in some team drills at training camp and could soon earn the green light to take contact and, incredibly, get back into game action.

Siemian signs with Titans

Trevor Siemian signed a one-year deal with the Titans to be the team’s backup quarterbac­k to starter Ryan Tannehill according to his agent, Mike McCartney. Siemian played with the Broncos for three seasons before moving on to the Vikings and the Jets.

Alvarez to have surgery

Astros manager Dusty Baker said that Yordan Alvarez, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, will have season-ending knee surgery to repair a partial tear of his right patella tendon.

Mariners DFA All-Star

The Mariners designated first baseman/DH Daniel Vogelbach for assignment barely a year after he was an All-Star selection.
