Biggest loser DeB gets left out again

- Steven Nelson

A group of seven failed Democratic presidential candidates held what resembled a “Survivor” reunion of losers before Joe Biden accepted the party’s presidential nomination — but Mayor de Blasio was still left out of the fun.

The virtual reunion was broadcast Thursday on the final night of the Democratic National Convention ahead of Biden’s speech. Losers joshed each other with memories from the campaign trail.

“You can think of this sort of like ‘Survivor’ on the outinterviews of all the people that got voted off the island,” New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker said.

“Bernie — Bernie don’t you laugh because I got a question for you: Like, why does my girlfriend like you more than she likes me?” Booker asked 78-year-old Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, universal-basic-income advocate Andrew Yang, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg all joined in the fun.

Klobuchar said she was touched by a phone call from Biden after she gave a speech on the Senate floor that she was certain nobody watched, including “my mom.”

“It was Joe Biden — and that kind of goes to not only his kindness for calling me and being a mentor, but it also goes to how much he cares about our government,” Klobuchar said.

The losers were effusive in their praise for Biden.

“In Joe Biden, you have a human being who is empathetic, who is honest, who is decent,” Sanders said.

One loser was elevated above the rest. Mike Bloomberg, who spent $188 million vying against Biden, got the prime slot just before the nominee’s acceptance speech. He did not join the “Survivor” reunion.
