DON RIPS DOOMOCRATS

Biden’s DNC was ‘gloomiest’ ever, president claims

- By STEVEN NELSON Snelson@nypost.com

President Trump came out swinging on Friday, bashing the Democratic National Convention as the “gloomiest” in US history and denouncing Joe Biden’s acceptance speech for omitting support for cops or detailed criticism of China.

“Over the last week, the Democrats held the darkest and angriest and gloomiest convention in American history,” Trump said in a speech in Virginia. “They spent four straight days attacking America as racist and a horrible country that must be redeemed.”

“Joe Biden grimly declared a season of American darkness,” the president said. “Where Joe Biden sees American darkness, I see American greatness.”

Trump’s address revved up the GOP-friendly crowd at the Council for National Policy in Arlington ahead of next week’s Republican National Convention, where he will deliver a speech on Thursday at the White House.

He told the audience that Hillary Clinton, who spoke during the DNC on Wednesday night, was “like a crazed lunatic” who still could not accept her defeat in the 2016 election.

The former secretary of state is “much smarter” than Biden, Trump argued, but the former vice president “is more likable.”

“I don’t know, maybe I’d rather have the smarter person. Who cares about personality, right?” he said.

Trump also slammed Biden for failing to criticize China or support police in his Thursday-night convention speech.

“The biggest part of last night’s speech was what Joe Biden didn’t talk about,” Trump said. “He didn’t talk about law enforcement. He didn’t talk about bringing safety to Democrat-run cities that are totally out of control. They have no clue.

“China was never mentioned in any way shape or form. China will own our country if he gets elected.”

Trump added: “You’ve seen the intelligence reports. China very much wants Joe Biden to win. That would be very insulting if they wanted me to win.”

Biden briefly mentioned China

in his convention speech.

“We’ll make the medical supplies and protective equipment our country needs. And we’ll make them here in America, so we will never again be at the mercy of China and other foreign countries in order to protect our own people,” Biden had said.

Trump mocked Biden’s running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, in his remarks, claiming she “went down like a rock” in the Democratic presidential primaries.

“Kamala runs. She’s sort of one of the favorites. And she goes from 15 to 13 to 12 to nine to seven to about one. She got out. She didn’t even get to Iowa,” Trump told the enthusiastic crowd.

Trump promised a “super V”-shaped economy recovery from the pandemic and urged suburban women to back him over a recent policy action to prevent forced low-income housing to be built.

He recounted his efforts to discourage protesters from tearing down statues of historical figures during anti-racism unrest.

“Poor Christopher!” he said, reflecting on the tearing down of Christopher Columbus statues.

“It’s time to reject the anger and the hate of the Democrat Party,” Trump told the room.

Trump warned that the election results may be imperiled by mass mail-in voting, which has been adopted by nine states and DC.

He also repeated a claim that if mail-in ballots cause a delay in results, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

could become president.

“I don’t know if it’s a theory or a fact. But I said, ‘That’s not good’ . . . I think it goes into effect either on the 20th or the first, and put that in the hopper, add that to everything else,” he said. “It’s a disgrace. They know it’s filthy dirty.”

The Constitution mandates that presidential terms end Jan. 20. If the Nov. 3 election is still unresolved at that time, some suggest there could be a debate over whether the speaker, as the next in succession behind the vice president, would become acting president. But Pelosi is also up for re-election, meaning her term would also end in January.

Even as Postmaster General Louis DeJoy pledged at a Senate hearing to speed the delivery of election mail, Trump continued to discourage more states from mailing out ballots to all voters.

“People are going to get ballots that had no intention of voting, that maybe shouldn’t be voting,” Trump said.

“You’ll have double voting where they send in a ballot, then they’ll go and vote. That’s gonna be a big problem.”

Trump predicted that the election outcome won’t be known for “weeks” at least.

“It will be a tremendous embarrassment to our country. It’ll go on forever and you’ll never know who won,” Trump said. “This is a very serious problem for a great democracy.”
