Jets add RB Ballage

- By PETER BOTTE

The Jets have added some running back depth with an Adam Gase connection.

They swung a trade Thursday with the Dolphins, acquiring Kalen Ballage for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2021.

The 24-year-old Ballage, the Dolphins’ fourth-round pick in 2018 when Gase was their head coach, rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games last season.

➤ Gase didn’t address the media with practice canceled Thursday, but he spoke highly the previous day of the 37-year-old Gore, the third-leading rusher in NFL history with 15,347 yards. He also coached Gore in San Francisco and Miami.

“He looks the same as he did 12 years ago. It’s ... I can’t explain it,” Gase said Wednesday. “It’s unbelievable how, when I watch him, I flash back to 2008. He looks the same.

“I don’t know how, it doesn’t make sense. But, Frank has been one that refuses to listen to what anybody else says, and he goes out there, he is an old-school football player. And he looks good, his burst looks good, his vision is never going to change . ... Frank is special, there’s a reason why he is third all-time in rushing.”

Asked how many more years he believes Gore can play, Gase added: “I would never put any ceiling on Frank, I would just say this, I’m glad he’s here.”

➤ The Jets also announced they have activated rookie cornerback

Bryce Hall from the reserve/COVID-19 list (July 28) and released running back Pete Guerriero. They currently have no players on the COVID list.
