Shelter cop in perv sting
A city Department of Homeless Services police officer was exposed for allegedly sexting with a “14-yearold girl” in a civilian sting posted on YouTube.
Michael Castro, 24, is now facing investigation at the Department of Social Services, which oversees the DHS and has referred the matter to law enforcement, the DSS said.
Castro, who was stationed at the Renaissance Shelter in Brooklyn, was targeted by the YouTube channel NYCreeps Spotlight, which aims to lure and expose pedophiles by creating bogus social-media profiles of underage girls.
Castro allegedly responded to a profile set up on the social-media app Whisper for a fictional 14-year-old, “Julie,” according to the channel’s creator, who asked to be identified only as FM.
A chat log shows Castro initially saying she was “too young,” but then allegedly asking about her clothes, her virginity and condoms before setting up a meeting for sex.
On Aug. 14, FM confronted Castro on video as he was allegedly going to meet “Julie.”
Contacted by The Post, Castro said only that his legal counsel advised him not to comment on the matter.
FM told Renaissance residents what happened, leading the cop to get transferred to the Fort Washington Men’s Shelter in Washington Heights, a law enforcement source said.
The DSS said Castro was transferred as soon as officials learned of the allegation and said he “no longer has any contact with clients.”
