Comic-book scion arrested
One of the Black Lives Matter protesters busted in a weekend window-smashing rampage in Manhattan is the son of a best-selling comic-book writer whose creations inspired the TV show “Stumptown.”
Elliot Rucka, 20, was among eight people arrested on rioting and other charges in the Friday spree that damaged banks, Starbucks coffee shops and Duane Reade pharmacies from Foley Square up to 24th Street.
The protest, which was organized by the groups New Afrikan Black Panther Party and the Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement, escalated into a three-hour marathon of destruction that caused at least $100,000 in damage, authorities said.
At least some of the protesters arrested in the spree appear to hail from elite backgrounds — prompting one law-enforcement source to scoff, “This is the height of hypocrisy.”
Among the other arrestees was flame-maned Clara Kraebber, the well-heeled daughter of an architect and a child psychiatrist. She was dubbed “Little Red ‘Rioting’ Hood” by Sunday’s Post.
Rucka, is the son of two accomplished comic-book writers: New York Times best-selling author Greg Rucka and Jennifer Van Meter, according to his father’s online bio.
Greg penned the comic series “The Old Guard,” which he then adapted for a Netflix film of the same name.
He also co-created the “Stumptown” series, which ABC optioned into a TV show last year.
The elder Rucka’s credits additionally include work on Batwoman, Detective Comics, Action Comics and “Lazarus,” the New York Times best-selling graphic novel series which he co-wrote, according to his site.
Van Meter has her own bona fides in the comic world, having written award-nominated issues and series for Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, according to her online bio.
Elliot Rucka lives in Portland, Ore., which has been mired in sometimes violent protests for weeks. It’s unclear what brought him to New York.
