Anti-ICE heats up
22 busts in clashes with cops downtown
Anti-ICE protesters, some wielding batons, clashed with NYPD cops in lower Manhattan, leading to 22 arrests, police said on Friday.
Sixteen men and six women were arrested during the rally held Thursday evening in part in response to allegations that unwanted hysterectomies and other gynecological procedures were performed on immigrants detained at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Georgia.
The demonstration of up to 60 people began in Foley Square and moved to the World Trade Center.
Ten people received desk-appearance tickets — mostly for obstructing governmental administration — while a dozen were issued summonses for disorderly conduct, cops said.
According to police, those nabbed included Christian Silva, 21, of Brooklyn; Marina Espinet, 24, of Brooklyn; Liam Fletcher, 26 of Nyack; Maximillion Silver, 31, of Brooklyn; and Hannah Morrison, 21, of Manhattan.
All were charged with obstructing governmental administration.
Michael Clancy, 45, of Brooklyn was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana, cops said.
Police sources say Clancy was found wielding a metal baton.
Also arrested during the rally were Brooklynites Reuben Mishan, 20, who was charged with obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of a weapon; Adelina Ceretto, 23, charged with resisting arrest; and Vivian Lee, 20, charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, cops said.
Malik Bowman, 26, of Yonkers was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
One of the protesters had pushed a cop, and most were placed in custody for blocking the roadway, police sources said.
A whistleblower complaint from a nurse has alleged that women have been subjected gynecological procedures without consent at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Ga.
