Birthday Bill
THE Town of East Hampton is warning residents of a “misleading” fund-raising letter that’s been circulating in the town. The US Deputy Sheriff’s Association, a nonprofit out of Wichita, Kan., is asking Hamptonites to contribute to the “Drive for America’s Police and Sheriff ’s Emergency Equipment Shortage,” requesting donations to pay for bulletproof vests and body armor for police officers. But town authorities have told locals, “This fund-raising effort is not affiliated with our local police . . . Our department has not received, nor does it expect to receive, equipment donations from this group.” David Hinners, director of the USDSA, denied any deception, telling us, “Nowhere does it say in the letter we are doing fund-raising for that area. We are not doing fund-raising in that area.” He also told us if the East Hampton cops need anything, they can “get ahold of us to see if they qualify for any of our programs.”
BILL MURRAY (above) celebrated his 70th birthday on Monday by wearing a cake on his head. A spy told us that Murray showed up to the Rink at Rockefeller Center in a “big birthdaycake-with-floppy-candles hat.” His son Homer, who just opened a restaurant, Hombre Taco, at the location, threw his dad the bash. “Bill showed up from the premiere of his movie ‘On the Rocks’ and wasn’t shy . . . He danced a lot and instead of blowing out candles, he put his face into [a real] cake and took a bite,” a spy said. An “SNL” crew filmed the action, including golden balloons spelling out Murray’s name.
