Judge wears Rebel gear after losing bet to Engram
Joe Judge showed up for his Friday Zoom session in an Ole Miss bucket hat and hooded sweatshirt.
No, the Giants’ coach didn’t suddenly start rooting for the rival of his alma mater. He lost a bet to the team’s tight end Evan Engram, who attended Ole Miss.
“He would have been walking around with a cowbell all week,” Judge said jokingly.
Engram did not have to because Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State 31-24 in the annual Egg Bowl rivalry last Saturday.
At the start of the Zoom, a masked Engram poked his head in and playfully said: “Hotty Toddy, baby,” the Ole Miss greeting. The Ole Miss football team’s Twitter account also tweeted about it, writing, “Welcome Aboard!” to Judge.
Judge played for Mississippi State from 2000-04 and started his coaching career there in 2005. He referred to his outfit as “ridiculous.” Engram, a 2017 first -pick, played for Ole Miss from 2013-16 and is the school’s all-time leader in receptions (162), receiving yards (2,320) and TD catches (15) by a tight end
➤ It will have to be a Penny family reunion from a distance on Sunday in Seattle. Giants fullback Eli Penny will be on the f ield, but his brother, Rashaad, a running back for the Seahawks, will miss the game. He tore his ACL last December and is getting closer to being able to return, but is not there yet.
“I wish he was ready to go, but he’ll be all right,” Eli Penny said. “He practiced this week, but he’s not ready to go. But I wish he was.”
➤ LB David Mayo (knee) is questionable. He was limited all week in practice. LB Cam Brown (illness), defensive back Nate Ebner (knee), and wide receivers Darius Slayton (shoulder/foot) and Sterling Shepard (toe/shoulder), were also limited on Friday, but all are expected to play.
Brown was sick on Thursday and didn’t practice. He received multiple negative COVID-19 tests before entering the facility on Friday.
“We had to take precautions,” Judge said. “We made sure he wasn’t really a threat as far as the COVID-related stuff.”
