Killer in ‘Knoxy’ case out of prison

- Lee Brown, Wires

The only person serving time for the murder of Amanda Knox’s roommate, Meredith Kercher, has been released from prison to finish his sentence with community service.

Rudy Guede, 33, was sentenced in 2008 to 30 years in prison for killing the 21-yearold British exchange student who was found partially nude, sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in her bedroom in Italy in 2007.

Knox, dubbed “Foxy Knoxy” by British tabloids, and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were also initially found guilty of the murder, but those convictions were overturned in 2015.

That left Guede, an Ivory Coast immigrant whose DNA was found at the scene, the only person whose conviction remained.

His initial 30-year sentence was reduced to 16 years, and in 2017, he was granted partial prison release to pursue a master’s degree and work in the library of a criminology center, Britain’s Telegraph reported.

After also working at a Catholic charity and a food kitchen, Guede was granted permission Friday to continue the community service for the remainder of his term, which ends in March 2022.

His lawyer, Fabrizio Ballarini, said Guede will live in an apartment in Viterbo, insisting he is “calm and socially well-integrated” after years of good conduct.

“He will continue with his studies and will also carry on his work” with the charity Caritas, Ballarini told Britain’s Sun newspaper.

“We are very satisfied with the decision,” he said.
