McConaughey rips elex sneers

- By JACKIE SALO

Matthew McConaughey slammed the Hollywood elites who “condescend” to and “patronize” conservatives — adding that it’s hypocritical of them to expect President Trump’s supporters to immediately accept the 2020 election results.

Appearing on Russell Brand’s podcast, “Under the Skin,” McConaughey was asked if he noticed a “condemnation and criticism of ordinary working people” in the entertainment industry when it comes to politics.

“[There is] a kind of offhandedness, like, ‘ Oh, they’re dumb, they’re voting for Brexit, they’re voting for Trump.’ I don’t like it, and I don’t like to hear it,” Brand said in an episode last week.

McConaughey replied, “There are a lot [of people] on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent.”

The “True Detective” star (left) pointed out how some of his Hollywood peers struggled to accept the results in the 2016 election — but now the roles have been reversed.

“I’m sure you saw it in our industry when Trump was voted in four years ago. They were in denial that was real. Some of them were in absolute denial,” McConaughey said.

He suggested that it would now be hypocritical for them to expect Trump voters to give up on challenging President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

“[Now] it looks like Biden’s our guy. Now you’ve got the right that’s in denial, cause their side has fake news. And I understand, they’ve been fed fake news. No one knows what the hell to believe, right? So they’re putting down their last bastion of defense.”

McConaughey said that people should reframe political conversations by daring each other to meet in the middle.

“I almost feel like it’s a move to say, ‘Let’s get aggressively centric. I dare you,’ ” he said.
