LB Jenkins headlines unavailable starters

The undermanned and winless Jets will be without several additional starters, including linebacker Jordan Jenkins, on Sunday at Seattle.

Rookie receiver Denzel Mims will miss the game due to a family emergency, and the Jets also may be without Jamison Crowder, who sat out Friday’s practice with a calf injury and has been listed as questionable.

“His game-status could be up in the air,” coach Adam Gase said Friday. “It’s not ideal, but there’s nothing anybody can really do about it. If we lose him, that’s a tough one.”

Jenkins suffered a shoulder injury in last week’s game against Las Vegas and has been ruled out against the Seahawks.

“He wanted to try to go this week, it’s just really his range of motion is not where he needs to be to play at the level he needs to play,” Gase said. “This is the best decision really for him and us, because him going out there and playing with one arm, that’s not fair to either of us.”

Safeties Ashtyn Davis (foot) and Bennett Jackson (hamstring) and guard Greg Van Roten (toe) also will miss the game. Gase joked he’d be “looking for volunteers” to play alongside Marcus Maye at safety.

Later in the day, the Jets announced they signed safety J.T. Hassell, who was released from New England’s practice squad Wednesday.

Frank Gore (concussion) was a full participant, but has been listed as questionable, along with guard Pat Elflein (shoulder/ankle).

Cornerback Bless Austin, who missed three games with a neck injury, is expected to be activated from injured reserve. If so, he’d start opposite Bryce Hall, Gase said.

Austin would replace rookie Lamar Jackson, who was beaten in single coverage by Henry Ruggs III for the goahead touchdown in Sunday’s loss to the Raiders.
