A staffer in Gov. Cuomo’s Manhattan offices was bashed in the head with a cinder block on a Midtown street in a random and terrifying attack on Christmas Eve, police and sources said.

Lisa Cavanaugh, 51, had just left work and was passing a construction site at Third Avenue near 48th Street at around 2:15 p.m. when a stranger crept up behind her, according to the NYPD and the sources.

The man hit her in the back of the head with the concrete block before fleeing west on East 48th Street, cops said.

Cavanaugh (inset) was knocked unconscious by the assault, law-enforcement sources said.

She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, some 20 blocks south of the scene, with several gashes to the back of her head.

The shocking daytime attack took place about six blocks from the governor’s Third Avenue offices.

Two witnesses saw the assault and alerted cops, law-enforcement sources said.

Cavanaugh required stitches to close up the wounds, according to a source with knowledge of her situation, adding that, all things considered, she was doing OK.

She was conscious and hospital staffers were “taking care of her,” the source said.

The assailant, meanwhile, was still on the loose as of Thursday night, cops said.

The NYPD released photos and surveillance footage of a man near the scene who police said was wanted for questioning.

Cavanaugh has worked as a recruitment and appointments officer in the governor’s office since at least September, according to her profile on LinkedIn.
