Scorekeeper in Milwaukee should bring a calculator

Defense has not been the strong suit for UW Milwaukee and Oakland this season, and the teams figure to get involved in a classic Midwest shootout on Friday in Milwaukee.

Oakland ranks 336th among the 347 Divisions I schools that have played a game this season in points allowed on a per-possession basis. UW Milwaukee ranks 264th, and the teams have allowed at least 79 points in each of their past four games, respectively.

UW Milwaukee makes the most of its possessions, ranking 34th in fewest turnovers on a perpossession basis while the Oakland defense is the ninthworst in the country in opponent assist-to-turnover ratio and is giving up 10.7 made 3-point shots per game, the second-most in the nation.

Oakland also allows opponents to rebound 33.2 percent of their missed shots, which ranks 336th, while UW Milwaukee gives up points on the first shot, ranking 329th in opponents 3-point shooting percentage (38.8 percent). UW Milwaukee’s 3-point shooting defense is even worse at home with opponents making 41.5 percent of their 3s. Oakland’s Rashad Williams ranks 12th among Division I players with 3.3 made 3-point shots per game, and Jalen Moore ranks third in the nation with 8.1 assists per game.
