NCAA: Hoosiers ax Miller

-

Indiana on Monday fired coach Archie Miller after four mediocre seasons.

Miller was 67-58 with the Hoosiers. He never made the NCAA Tournament during his time at the school, though many believed Indiana would have received a bid last year had the tourney not been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minnesota fired Richard Pitino after the coach compiled a 54-96 regular-season record over eight years in the Big Ten.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffrey inked a four-year extension.

The ACC has eliminated its rule requiring athletes to sit out a season if they transfer within the league.

NBA: Jazz investigation complete

The NBA said that an investigation into whether Jazz player Elijah Millsap had a bigoted remark directed at him during an end-of-season interview six years ago has ended and was unable to find proof that the statement was made.

Millsap alleged last month that Dennis Lindsey, then the team’s general manager and now its executive vide president, said “if u say one more word, I’ll cut your Black ass and send you back to Louisiana” during that April 2015 meeting.

The struggling Kings were dealt another big blow when forward Marvin Bagley III broke his left hand in a 122-116 loss to the Hornets in Charlotte, N.C.

LeBron James posted a triple-double (22 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds) in 30 minutes as the Lakers blasted the Warriors, 128-97, in San Francisco.

NHL: Ovie ties Esposito in Caps win

Alex Ovechkin matched Phil Esposito for sixth on the NHL list with his 717th goal, and the Capitals beat the Sabres, 6-0, in Buffalo.

Ovechkin scored in the third period, helping send Washington to its fifth straight win with his 1,299th career point — one shy of becoming the 35th player to reach 1,300.

The Kings’ home game against the Blues on Monday night was postponed because of weather conditions that kept the Kings in Denver on Sunday.

Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot could miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing surgery for a fractured hand.
