MLB: Twins walk off vs. Bosox

Max Kepler’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Twins a 4-3 victory over the Red Sox in Minneapoli­s, ending a five-game losing streak for Minnnesota. Boston, which tied it in the eighth on Alex Verdugo’s three-run double, had been on a ninegame winning streak, their longest since a 10-game run in 2018.

In St. Petersburg, Fla., Adolis Garcia hit his first major league homer, a two-run shot in the 10th inning, to lift the Rangers to a 6-4 win over the Rays.

In Baltimore, Mitch Haniger became the first Mariners player to homer out of the leadoff spot in both ends of a doublehead­er, hitting a tiebreakin­g drive in the second game that led Seattle over the Orioles, 2-1, to complete a sweep. The Mariners won the opener 4-2.

In Atlanta, Dansby Swanson’s RBI single with the bases loaded capped a two-run rally in the ninth inning and the Braves beat the Marlins, 7-6, to snap a four-game losing streak.

Padres manager Jayce Tingler is hopeful shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. , on the injured list with a shoulder injury, will be able to return to the lineup on Friday vs. the Dodgers.

NBA: MJ to present Kobe at HOF

Michael Jordan will present Kobe Bryant for induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on May 15. Jordan

In Los Angeles, Jaylen Brown scored four of his 40 points in the final minute, and the Celtics blew most of a 27-point lead in the fourth quarter before holding on for their fifth straight victory, 121-113 over the Lakers.

ETC.: Canucks’ return on hold

The Canucks, who have not played a game since March 24 due to a COVID-19 outbreak, had been scheduled to host the Oilers on Friday night. The league announced Thursday that game will not be played and did not set a new date for Vancouver’s return.

In Pittsburgh, Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier scored in the shootout and the Flyers defeated the Penguins 2-1 for just their ninth win in the past 25 games.

In Hilton Head Island, S.C., Cameron Smith birdied the difficult 17th and 18th holes at Harbour Town to shoot a 9-under 62, his career low on the PGA Tour, and take a one-shot lead over Stewart Cink at the RBC Heritage.
