Blueshirts can’t slip up chasing B’s

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

The job is only half done. The Rangers took care of business in their first two games against the lowly Devils, netting one-sided shutouts on Tuesday and Thursday. Now they have to make sure there are no slip ups this weekend, starting Saturday afternoon at the Garden.

“These games are huge,” defenseman Ryan Lindgren said following practice on Friday. “We’re trying to claw our way back into the playoffs . ... We shouldn’t have a tough time at all getting up for these games.”

With 13 regular-season games left, the Rangers trail the Bruins by six points for the last playoff spot in the East Division. The two teams are scheduled to meet twice more, May 6 and 8 in Boston. Those games, however, won’t matter if the Rangers can’t handle the inferior Devils, or the similarly struggling Sabres, whom they will face twice down the stretch.

“I’ve said this before, especially after the trade deadline and how this season’s unfolding, these games against New Jersey and Buffalo for everybody in our division is really going to go a long way in determining who is going to make the playoffs,” coach David Quinn said. “Take anybody lightly or take anybody for granted, you’re going to be on the wrong side of it . ... We’re certainly expecting their best [on Saturday].”

➤ Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin will be back in net Saturday against the Devils, after blanking them in the previous two games — the first two shutouts of his young NHL career. The 25-year-old goaltender has played very well of late, making 43 saves in these last two victories.
