NHL: Torts out as Columbus coach
John Tortorella is out as coach of the Blue Jackets after six seasons. General manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement that parting ways with the winningest coach in franchise history was a mutual decision. The 62-year-old former Rangers coach was in the last year of his contract, and the separation wasn’t a surprise after a tumultuous season.
The Coyotes parted ways with coach Rick Tocchet after four seasons.
MLB: Pivetta wins again for Sawx
Rafael Devers and Hunter Renfroe homered, Nick Pivetta won his third consecutive start and the Red Sox defeated the Orioles 4-3 in Baltimore. Boston has won five of six, improved to 12-4 on the road and at 22-13 owns the best record in baseball.
In Atlanta, Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson homered, Huascar Ynoa won his fourth straight start and the Braves beat the Phillies 6-1.
In Houston, Kyle Tucker hit a threerun homer and tied a career high with four RBIs as the Astros built a big lead early and held on for a 7-4 win over the Blue Jays.
In Oakland, Calif., Willy Adames hit a three-run homer in the fifth, Mike Brosseau added a tiebreaking drive the following inning and the Rays held off the Athletics 4-3. NBA: Doncic ejected, Mavs still win
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 25 points and Josh Richardson had 20, allowing the playoff-bound Mavericks to overcome the ejection of Luka Doncic in a 124-97 win over the Cavaliers.
In Boston, Jimmy Butler had 26 points and 11 assists to help the Heat hold off the Celtics 130-124.
In Detroit, Nikola Vucevic had 29 points and 16 rebounds and the Bulls kept their play-in chances alive with a 108-94 win over the Pistons.
In Los Angeles, Anthony Davis had 42 points and 12 rebounds and the Lakers never trailed in a 123-110 win over the Suns.
Bradey Beal will miss the Wizards’ game Monday at Atlanta because of a strained left hamstring.

Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf couldn’t catch the field in his heat of a 100-meter race at the USA Track and Field Golden Games, finishing ninth out of nine but in a respectable time of 10.37 seconds.
