Hochul’s Unsteady Start: A Rush To Pay Lawbreakers

-

THE ISSUE: Gov. Hochul’s plan to pay illegal immigrants who lost a job due to COVID or lost out on stimulus checks.

How much abuse are the citizens and taxpayers of New York expected to take (“Hochul’s First Left Turn,” Betsy McCaughey, PostOpinion, Aug. 27)?

No sooner does the senior-citizen-killing, allegedly predatory governor exit office in disgrace than we are told the new governor’s plans to give cash payments to people who shouldn’t even be here, even if they worked off the books.

It’s disgustingly disrespectful to the law-abiding taxpayers of this state. The illegal status of these people has been so obfuscated and normalized it’s beyond ridiculous.

There has to be a sane way to recognize the reality of the number of people illegally living in New York and get them working on the books and paying taxes.

Enough already. Contact your state Assembly member and state senator and tell them to knock it off. They’re vote-buying with our money.

New Yorkers who thought they dodged a bullet by getting rid of Andrew Cuomo may be having second thoughts.

Gov. Hochul has already caved to the lunatic fringe left-wing Democrats by endorsing payments to illegal aliens for supposedly lost wages due to COVID. Give Hochul time, you may want Cuomo back.

Does anybody believe the media knew nothing about Cuomo’s “executive groping” after three terms in office?

With feigned surprise and outrage, they threw him under the bus and pivoted to the “first woman governor,” and a moderate at that, to change the focus.

The truth: She wasted no time in blaming Republicans for vaccine hesitancy, and she talks of forcing schoolchildren to mask up and payments to illegal immigrants that surpass the annual income of some working poor.

If New Yorkers don’t read and listen, we will see another election victory by a leftist chameleon. John Brindisi

I can’t believe what I read in McCaughey’s column. Regarding Hochul’s plan to give thousands to illegal immigrants because they missed the stimulus check: Those checks went to taxpayers who filed income-tax returns, and some lost their jobs during COVID-19.

Illegal immigrants often don’t pay taxes and more than likely work off the books. They don’t have to play the lottery, they just have to come to New York.
