A wild ride in West’s Berlin
KANYE West — the “Where’s Waldo?” of rappers who was recently living in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium while completing his delayed album “Donda” — unexpectedly popped up in Germany this week. The eccentric hip-hop artist toured art galleries with a black balaclava covering his face, and rode around with a random paparazzo.
West — who accused his label of releasing his album without permission when it finally dropped Sunday — was seen visiting several Berlin galleries and museums days later, attempting to disguise himself in an all-black outfit.
Eschewing a chauffeur, West asked local pap Holger for a ride. Apparently, the notoriously high-maintenance West at first deemed Holger’s car “too dirty” — but eventually deigned to get in, riding shotgun.
The unlikely duo apparently had lunch together at Lutter & Wegner — which online reviews call “cozy” with “authentic German and Austrian cuisine” — before Holger whisked West to the KW Institute for Contemporary Art. Besides perusing the exhibits, West hit the gift shop to buy a “KW” hoodie, which he changed into on the spot.
He and his buddy for the day then headed to a bunker-turned-art-gallery (how Berlin!) that shows work by over 500 artists.
West’s odd excursion comes days after Universal finally released his long-awaited 10th studio album, after West hatched a tour of stadium listening parties to hype its release. Just last week in Chicago, he’d re-created his wedding to Kim Kardashian onstage. That sparked speculation of a reconciliation, but sources have told Page Six it was purely a stunt and “performance art.”
Yeezy’s new album will battle Drake’s latest release in the charts. A source previously told us: “The real story is that Kanye wants to beat Drake in record sales, and he is putting on a big show of performance art to grab all the media attention.”
