Insult to Gold Star Families: Biden’s Ceremony Snub

-

THE ISSUE: President Biden checking his watch during a ceremony honoring 13 troops killed in Kabul.

Every American should be outraged by the image of President Biden checking his watch as our heroes’ coffins arrive home (“Dishonor,” Aug. 31).

Obviously, he was wondering when the tedious ceremony would be over so he could get on with his busy schedule.

Well, guess what, Joe? It will never be over for the families of those brave young men and women. God bless them, and God bless America.

Sharon Wylie Westport, Conn.

I feel very sorry for all the families who lost loved ones — brave soldiers — during the Aug. 26 terrorist attack.

Mark Schmitz’s son, Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, just 20 years old, was among the dead.

Schmitz noticed Biden checking his watch time after time.

He said that when he spoke to the president, Biden kept referring to his own son, Beau, who died years ago of brain cancer. Schmitz was quoted as saying “That didn’t sit well with me.” Of course it didn’t.

Biden is completely out of touch, and his mental frailty is clear. He should step down. He is unfit, and this can only get worse for the United States.

And yet, I fear the media will begin propping Biden up, telling us how well he handled the situation in Afghanistan. Just wait. Robert Henry

The photo of Biden glancing at his watch during a ceremony honoring slain US troops while wearing a mask (despite being fully vaccinated) symbolizes his disastrous performance over the past eight months.

Poor optics reflect pathetic decisions that cost lives and stained our nation’s honor. He wants to be the next President Franklin Roosevelt but is really Jimmy Carter 2.0 — a total failure. Richard Reif

The glaring lack of honor in our woke military leadership is nauseating. They left Americans and friends behind.

The one officer who spoke out demanding accountability will no longer be a Marine after 17 years service.

Who will volunteer to fight for this commander-in-chief, who had the gall to speak to the families of those killed in Kabul about his own son, who died from cancer?

He looked at his watch multiple times as if he had somewhere else to be, and he broke his promise that nobody would be left behind.

Not surprising, since he was vice president of an administration that left Americans out to dry in Benghazi.

Just when you thought Biden couldn’t humiliate the United States any more, the world sees him checking his watch at a ceremony for 13 heroes who died due to his blatant incompetence.

I wonder if he was checking his watch at his son’s funeral — or was he afraid he might miss the early bird specials at the senior center?

What an absolute shame and embarrassment that the president of the United States had to look at his watch during the ceremony for the dead Marines. I guess he was checking how long it would be before his nap.

This administration should be held accountable for what has happened. The president, secretary of defense, Gen. Mark Milley, et al, should resign in disgrace.

As a veteran, we lived by one rule: “Never leave anyone behind.” But these clowns left hundreds behind. This is a episode Americans should never forget. Philip Vallone

If a picture is worth a thousand words, surely the photo of Biden looking at his watch as the coffins containing our 13 gold star heroes were being readied to return to their families for burial speaks volumes.

Biden can blame his three predecessors all he wants, but there’s no doubt that he owns the Afghanistan debacle. The families of our 13 heroes have every right to castigate Biden for his ineptitude in this regard.
