Don’t Free a Nurse Killer: Keep Doyle Behind Bars

-

I am writing this letter in support of Phyllis Meliota (“‘Can never forgive,’ ” Aug. 30). I am a retired law-enforcement officer and oppose parole for Anthony Doyle and all murderers.

Doyle’s crime was savage, brutal and animalistic. He is a despicable excuse for a human being. He should be denied parole and die behind bars.

Barbara Meliota was just 24 when he murdered her. She can never be paroled from the death sentence imposed on her by Doyle. He should never be paroled from his sentence ever. Gary Acerra,

I read the article regarding the possible upcoming parole of Anthony Doyle, who very viciously murdered Barbara Meliota, who was a nurse at Montefiore Hospital in 1982.

It would be a disgrace if he was ever set free. This man is pure evil, and a lifetime in prison is too good for him. Murdering a nurse is the same as murdering a police officer. It is someone who has devoted their life to helping people.

Please, for the sake of her family and friends, never let this lowlife out of prison. Lenny Nelson Valley Stream

How will Doyle’s release serve the good of society?

Anyone who does something this horrific isn’t truly human. There is certainly no guarantee he won’t do something horrible again.

The irresponsible New York Parole Board constantly overlooks things like this. He should have been executed, which is what would have happened if this occurred in Texas or Florida.

Why on Earth should he be given the privilege of freedom to enjoy his “golden years” after he intentionally took a life in so horrendous a way? Where is the logic to this?

How can anyone justify this? Only our Parole Board, friend to cop killers and all other types of vicious murderers, could. Niles Welikson

The potential release of the killer of nurse Barbara Meliota reminds us once again how liberal public officials, including the late Gov. Mario Cuomo, who promised us “life without parole” for capital crimes, just don’t feel the moral outrage of those from the era in which the crime was committed.

I predict the eventual release of David “Son of Sam” Berkowitz. To those who oppose capital punishment I say: Life without parole must be just that.
