Crowder tests positive for COVID-19
Jets receiver Jamison Crowder has tested positive for COVID-19, a source confirmed.
Crowder will be placed on the COVID-19 list, leaving his status for the season opener next Sunday against the Panthers in question. NFL Network first reported Crowder’s positive test, and said the Jets believe it is an isolated case.
Crowder’s vaccination status is unclear, but if he has received his shots, he will be required to post two negative tests one day apart to return to the Jets’ facility. If he’s not vaccinated, he will be sidelined a minimum of 10 days.
The 28-year-old Crowder sat out practices Wednesday and Thursday with what head coach Robert Saleh said was a day-to-day groin issue. The seven-year NFL veteran totaled a teamleading 59 receptions for 699 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last season.
Still, the Jets upgraded their receiver corps in the offseason, signing Corey Davis and Keelan Cole as free agents and drafting Elijah Moore in the second round of the draft. If Crowder is unable to play against Carolina, more playing time could be opened for Moore, who missed time earlier in training camp with a quad injury.
➤ The Broncos’ coaches and staff spent Friday building bicycles for underprivileged children to honor the memory of Greg Knapp. The Jets’ assistant coach died July 22, five days after his bike was struck by a motorist in California. He had been Denver’s quarterbacks coach from 2013-16.
