Just say you’re sorry

Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky says she doesn’t need an apology from Bill Clinton — but “he should want” to give her one.

Lewinsky, 48, whose infamous tryst with the thenpresident prompted impeachment proceedings in 1998, told NBC’s “Today” show Tuesday that Clinton should be sorry for the scandal but said she no longer covets a mea culpa.

“There was a long period, before my life changed in the last six or seven years, where I felt a lot in terms of there not being this resolution,” Lewinsky told host Savannah Guthrie. “I’m very grateful that I don’t have that feeling anymore. I don’t need it.

“He should want to apologize in the same way I want to apologize any chance I get to people my actions have hurt,” she added.

Lewinsky spoke on the eve of Tuesday night’s launch of “American Crime Story: Impeachment,” a 10episode series about the scandal on FX.

Lewinsky, who was a 22year-old intern when the sordid affair became public after Clinton’s 1996 re-election, is co-producing the series.

News of the affair leaked out after Lewinsky confided in Linda Tripp, a former White House and Pentagon employee who secretly recorded their discussions about the sexual affair.

Lewinsky (inset) said working on the series proved difficult despite the years that have passed.

“I do not recommend watching your early 20s be dramatized on TV,” she told Guthrie. “Especially in this instance, where the truth really was stranger than fiction.

“[There were] moments where I just thought, ‘Don’t

smile back. Don’t talk to her. Don’t confess. Don’t do this, don’t do that. Don’t make bad decisions.’ I was really hard to see.”

Guthrie asked her if she wanted Clinton to watch the series.

“I don’t even know how to really answer that,” Lewinsky responded.
