THE Tony Awards are back. But the night’s biggest and booziest parties have been canceled, we’re told. The legendary raucous bash thrown by p.r. guru Rick Miramontez at the Carlyle has been put on ice this year, as well as the awards’ official after-party. Page Six has seen a letter that the Tonys’ organizers — the Broadway League and American Theatre Wing — sent to ticket holders, which reads, “We know the awards ceremony at the Winter Garden Theatre will be a joyful and cathartic moment for the theater community. Unfortunately, we have been advised by the city that we will not be granted a permit for our Tony Awards after party. As a result we will have to cancel it. We are extremely disappointed with the decision.” Guests are being offered a refund of $250 on their ticket price or they can choose to have that money donated to charity. Tickets for the Sept. 26 show — which included a ticket for the party — are going for more than a song: $1,495 on the Tonys’ Web site. An insider tells us the stage community is being extra careful when it comes to COVID safety since the pandemic closed the Great White Way for 18 months, devastating the industry. “The shows are just coming back,” said an insider. “No one wants to have their cast get sick.” Miramontez’s storied Carlyle bacchanal will be sorely missed by effusive theater types and gossip columnists alike. In 2018, “a beloved male producer took a header in the Royal Suite and smashed into the wall, shattering some very valuable Venetian glass.” In 2017, cops showed up when a “completely drunk” and “belligerent” Broadway producer was kicked out. Instead of leaving, he dramatically “ran through the revolving door chased by security into the lobby at peak party . . . The poor bouncer had to use force to subdue the maniac because he was so wasted. He was on the ground screaming.” The awards show will air on CBS and Paramount+, with Tony winners Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr. as hosts.
