Luke Luck likes lakes — and so will you.

The Lake House on Canandaigua (a super charming little upstate New York town straight out of yesteryear in the splashy wine-obsessed Finger Lakes) opened last summer — i.e. in the middle of a pandemic. Lucky for you, that means it’s practically brand new and super worth the admittedly long drive. Don’t believe us? Fine. It was just named the No. 1 resort hotel in the state by Travel+Leisure. T+L gave it the further distinction of naming it second in the Top 15 Resort Hotels in the Continental US and 30th in the Top 100 Hotels in the World.

Here’s why: The familyoriented, 124-room escape paints a suave picture with three stories of white siding and contrasting shutters. Inside, the hotel boasts practically perfect lounges, libraries, game rooms, swank dining at the Rose Tavern and boat shoefriendly dockside dishes along the marina.

But while there are enough activities to keep any brood of minors at bay — the simply named Lakehouse is all about relaxation and meditative water vistas for overstressed adults. Cold champagne is waiting for you at check in and the martinis at sunset at the waterfront Sand Bar are frigid.

And to that end, the resort’s main attraction is certainly the Willowbrook Spa, which conspicuously features three show-stopping human-scale wooden barrels. Designed in nearby Canada, these private pods are in fact chic saunas with outdoor showers and resting areas. Hit the lake then sweat out your cares for just $75 per hour-long session. Hotel rates start at

$242 per night for a queen room
