Maye out 3-4 weeks as DBs take big hit

- By MOLLIE WALKER

The hits just keep coming to the Jets’ secondary.

Marcus Maye, the franchisetagged safety and one of the team’s top defensive players, is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury, The Post’s Brian Costello confirmed Wednesday. With Lamarcus Joyner suffering a season-ending elbow injury in Week 1, the Jets are now without both their starting safeties heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Titans at MetLife Stadium.

The 28-year-old Maye has taken every defensive snap for the Jets through their 0-3 start. He was able to finish Sunday’s 26-0 loss to the Broncos, in which he registered seven solo tackles, but his ankle swelled up after the game.

“Should be back fully healthy just before the trade deadline,” Maye’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, wrote on Twitter. That deadline is Nov. 2.

Jarrod Wilson and Adrian Colbert are currently the only active safeties on the Jets’ roster. Ashtyn Davis (foot) and Sharrod Neasman (hamstring) returned to practice on Wednesday, giving the Jets 21 days to activate them from injured reserve. Sheldrick Redwine, who was waived and resigned to the practice squad last week, is also available.

It’s unclear if the 24-year-old Davis will be ready to play Sunday against the Titans. Either way, the secondary somehow just got even younger.

The Jets have been outscored by a whopping 50 points so far this season, but Robert Saleh isn’t pointing fingers at his offensive coordinator.

In fact, the coach complimented Mike LaFleur.

“I thought he’s done a good job,” Saleh said Wednesday. “When things work, you’re a genius. When they don’t, you’re an idiot. And that’s what it is, that’s the NFL, forever and a day.”

WR Elijah Moore (concussion) and WR Jeff Smith (concussion) did not practice. WR Jamison Crowder (groin) and Tyler Kroft (rib) were limited.
