MLB: Red Sox keep wild-card spot

Hunter Renfroe and Bobby Dalbec hit back-to-back homers during a four-run sixth inning, and the Red Sox beat the Nationals 4-2 Friday night in Washington.

The Red Sox hold the second AL wildcard spot and moved within one game of the Yankees for the wild-card lead.

In Toronto, Steven Matz pitched seven solid innings to win his fifth straight decision, Danny Jansen homered and drove in three runs, and the Blue Jays defeated the Orioles 6-4.

In Seattle, Brandon Marsh accounted for all the offense with a two-run double as the Angels damaged the Mariners’ wild-card hopes with a 2-1 win. Seattle is tied with Toronto and both are one game behind Boston.

In San Francisco, the Giants clinched at least a share of their first NL West title since 2012 by matching a franchise record with their 106th win, beating the Padres 3-0. The Dodgers are two games back after an 8-6 win over the Brewers.

NFL: Jackson back at practice

Ravens quarterbac­k Lamar Jackson returned to practice and was a full participan­t after missing two days with what offensive coordinato­r Greg Roman called “a little back flare-up.”

Star running back Christian McCaffrey will miss the Panthers’ game Sunday at the Cowboys with a hamstring strain.

ETC.: 76ers keep Simmons’ $

The 76ers put 25 percent of money owed to guard Ben Simmons per his contract — $8.25 million — in an escrow account in response to his holdout, multiple media outlets reported. The team said they will deduct any fines Simmons racks up from the account.

In College Park, Md. Spencer Petras threw for three touchdowns and ran for two and No. 5 Iowa ran past Maryland, 51-14.

Will Zalatoris set the course record with an 11-under 61 to share the lead with Nick Watney and Sahith Theegala at the Sanderson Farms Championsh­ip in Jackson, Miss. Cameron Young of Scarboroug­h, N.Y., who just earned his tour card, is one shot back.

In Galloway, N.J., So Yeon Ryu birdied the last three holes for a 6-under 65 and a share of the lead with Jodi Ewart Shadoff in the ShopRite LPGA.
