KID’S IN ‘LIN’ CLASS

‘History lesson’

- By DANA KENNEDY

Luke Stevens played hooky from school last week, but he had a good excuse for missing his history class and test at Centennial HS in Roswell, Ga.

He was having lunch with Broadway’s most famous history professor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, at a fundraiser organized by Luke’s mom, Tamara Stevens, in her backyard, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

He even got a note of sorts to show his teacher: a video from Miranda — the playwright, actor and singer behind the hit play “Hamilton” — explaining why Luke cut class.

“This is Lin-Manuel Miranda. I’m sorry he can’t be in US history class right now, but he’s with me. We’re gonna go over the Bill of Rights and anything you may be covering right now,” Miranda said in a video (frame above) sent to the teacher and posted on social media.

“We cover a lot in about 2½ hours of ‘Hamilton,’ but we’re gonna go over it in specifics now. So this is not lost time, thank you for excusing him from class.”

Stevens’ teacher Meggin Rosner couldn’t argue with that. After seeing the video, she sent Luke a message.

“OMG !!!!!!! I AM FREAKING OUT DURING THE TEST AND I CAN’T SCREAM BECAUSE THEY ARE CONCENTRATING AND I AM FREAKING OUT !!!!!! ” Rosner wrote.

Rosner said she planned to use “Hamilton” to teach lessons this week in class.

“Tell him I just saw the show for the first time and I love it!” Rosner said.

In addition to providing a cool excuse for missing class, Miranda performed a special rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Stevens that she shared with the 11Alive news station in Atlanta.

Miranda claimed to be a bit “rusty” while taking to the piano but Stevens proclaimed that it was her “best birthday ever” after his impromptu performance.

Luke returned to school Friday and his mom said he’s already taken the test he missed.

Stevens works with voting-rights groups and similar political organizations in Georgia. The function Miranda attended raised money specifically for groups like the Black Voters Matter Fund and the New Georgia Project.

Stevens even got a call from Hillary Clinton, the Journal-Constitution reported.
