Finding sleeper tight ends

- By HOWARD BENDER

IF WE learned anything from Robert Woods’ 12-catch, 150-yard performance Thursday night, it should be patience. Watching your top picks struggle for your fantasy football teams can be one of the most frustrating things, especially when it is happening to more than one player on your roster.

Woods was one of the bigger offenders, but he was far from alone as DK Metcalf and Tyreek Hill both had big recent games to assuage their owners. But not every slow starter is going to bounce back when you want it to happen, so while you wait for Allen Robinson and Miles Sanders to wake up, perhaps a few sleeper tight ends can help ease your pain and raise your weekly score.

It isn’t often you stumble upon a strong, yet under-the-radar player who is expected to see heavy volume, but that is exactly what Washington’s Ricky Seals-Jones can be as he replaces the injured Logan Thomas. You may even be able to trust in the fact that he will see 100 percent of the snaps and average five targets per game, just as Thomas saw before the injury.

With role players such as Curtis Samuel and Dyami Brown nursing injuries and potential rain in the forecast, which could shorten up the passing attack, Seals-Jones could be the complement to wideout Terry McLaurin, Washington so desperately needs.

If you aren’t going to let the Urban Meyer craziness affect how you view the Jaguars this weekend, then new acquisition Dan Arnold could also be your tight end in shining armor. The injury to D.J. Chark Jr. has allowed Laviska Shenault Jr. to move into that outside receiver role which, in turn, frees up snaps out of the slot as well as targets for the tight end.

It can be incredibly frustrating as you wait for you high-end talent to finally come around, but finding some of these deep dives to help augment your weekly scoring can soften the blow and maybe even steal you a couple of wins. Last week, thanks to Dawson Knox, Dalton Schultz and Mo-Alie Cox, we saw tight end scoring increase significantly. If you can get this week’s share with a subtle waiver claim, you could be the one doing the touchdown dance
