HOOPS: Seton Hall outlasts Cal

Seton Hall overcame a rough shooting night, making just 17 of 50 and 4 of 18 from 3, to beat California 62-59 in the thirdplace game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off.

Jared Rhoden made just five shots from the field on 17 attempts, but was 12-for-15 from the free-throw line to lead the Pirates with 21 points and seven rebounds as Seton Hall also got 12 points off the bench from Kadary Richmond to spoil Cal’s upset bid.

● In San Francisco, Stephen Curry scored 25 points to younger brother Seth’s 24 for the 76ers, and the Warriors used a big second-half comeback to beat Philadelph­ia, 116-96, for their fifth straight win.

● In Cleveland, Devin Booker scored 35 points, Chris Paul had 12 assists and made four free throws in the final 8.8 seconds, and the Suns extended their winning streak to 14 games by holding off the Cavaliers 120-115.

● In Indianapol­is, LeBron James made the tiebreakin­g 3-pointer in overtime and followed with a back-breaking 3 in his return from the first suspension of his career to help the Lakers beat Indiana 124-116.

● In Houston, Danuel House Jr. had 18 points, Christian Wood added 16 points and 10 rebounds and the Rockets ended their losing streak at 15, beating the Bulls 118-113.

● In Paradise Island, Bahamas, Tyler Polley scored a career-high 24 points and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:58 left in the second overtime to help No. 22 UConn beat No. 19 Auburn 115-109 in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis. UConn will play Thursday vs. Michigan State, who beat Loyola Chicago 63-61 when Marcus Bingham Jr.dunked an alley-oop pass from Tyson Walker with 3.4 seconds left.

● In Las Vegas, Johnny Davis scored 20 points, Tyler Wahl added 18 and a key block, and Wisconsin outlasted Saint Mary’s 61-55 to win the Maui Invitation­al.

● In the third-place game, Fabian White Jr. scored 15 points, Marcus Sasser added 14 and No. 12 Houston overpowere­d Oregon 78-49.

● In Fort Myers, Fla., Tyree Appleby hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and No. 23 Florida beat Ohio State 71-68 in the Fort Myers TipOff championsh­ip game Tip-Off.

At Barclays Center, Izaiah Brockingto­n scored 23 of his 30 points in the second half, and Iowa State beat No. 25 Xavier 82-70 in the NIT Season Tip-Off.
