Baldwin fleeing to Vermont
ALEC Baldwin is quietly trying to sell his $7 million mansion in Amagansett, according to local real-estate sources, following the fatal shooting on the set of “Rust.”
The actor and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, are putting their home up for sale off-market, said Hamptons insiders, because they want to move to Vermont in hopes that it will give them and their six young kids more privacy.
Of course, it was to Vermont where Baldwin initially fled with Hilaria after he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on Oct. 21 on the New Mexico set of “Rust,” also injuring director Joel Souza.
Baldwin insists he fired what he believed was an unloaded gun during a rehearsal.
But following the media furor over the shooting, the Baldwins didn’t initially appear to get the privacy they sought in Vermont. We saw Alec giving roadside interviews, while Hilaria was filming photographers with her phone as she bought coffee or went out jogging.
Still, insiders said the “Rust” tragedy — which could see Baldwin, the lead actor and a producer on the movie, mired in potentially expensive lawsuits for many years — has prompted them to seek out a new life.
The insiders said the Baldwins have been looking for a new home in Vermont with “considerable space and security features” for their growing brood. Hilaria has already said she brought Alec to Vermont because “he needs space for me to take care of him and his mental health . . . It’s an awful thing that happened. Alec feels awful.”
But Baldwin will be sad to leave his historic home in Amagansett, which he had painstakingly restored. It was originally built around 1700 on Montauk Highway, and in 1756 it was moved by oxen to its present location.
In 2016, Elle Decor breathlessly described Baldwin’s house: “The renovated shingle-style house is the family’s bright and modern escape from city life, and Hollywood’s prying eyes.” Reps for Baldwin didn’t get back to us.
