NFL: HOF lineman Culp dies

Hall of Fame defensive lineman Curley Culp, who helped the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl during a 14-year NFL career, died Saturday of complicati­ons from pancreatic cancer. He was 75. Culp announced this month that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

He was chosen to participat­e in six Pro Bowls, and he was second to Steelers cornerback Mel Blount for AP Defensive Player of the Year after the 1975 season.

The Ravens activated linebacker Malik Harrison from injured reserve Saturday, less than four weeks after he was struck on the leg by a stray bullet on Oct. 31 outside a Cleveland nightclub.

The Titans placed wide receiver A.J. Brown on injured reserve. Brown already had been declared out for Sunday’s game against New England after he sustained a chest injury during last weekend’s loss to Houston.

Steelers cornerback Joe Haden will miss Sunday’s visit to Cincinnati due to a sprained foot.

The Browns activated running back Kareem Hunt (calf ) and Pro Bowl right tackle Jack Conklin (dislocated elbow) from injured reserve, and they will be in the lineup for Sunday night’s game against the Ravens.

BOXING: Kambosos wins title

George Kambosos earned a split-decision victory to claim the WBO, WBA, IBF and WBC francise lightweigh­t titles over Brooklyn native Teofimo Lopez at the Hulu Theatre in Madison Square Garden Saturday night. Lopez scored a 10th-round knockdown but it proved to be not enough as he fell to 16-1 with 12 KOs. It was the first time Lopez had fought since beating Vassiliy Lomachenko in October of 2020.

NBA: T’wolves beat Sixers in 2OT

D’Angelo Russell scored 35 points and had a decisive steal and assist in the final seconds of the second overtime in the Timberwolv­es’ 121-120 victory over Joel Embiid and the 76ers in Philadelph­ia.

Embiid had 42 points and 14 rebounds in his return to the lineup after missing nine games because of COVID-19 protocols.

In Chicago, Kyle Lowry scored 19 points, Jimmy Butler added 18 and the Heat beat the Bulls 107-104. Gabe Vincent made four 3-pointers and had 20 off the bench for the Heat.

In Houston, Christian Wood scored a career-high 33 points and had 16 rebounds as the Rockets beat the Hornets, 146-143 in double overtime.

Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant suffered a sprained left knee on Friday night, which will likely keep him out of action for weeks, but is not a season-ending injury.

NHL: Panthers home win streak ends

Chris Driedger made 33 saves against his former team, helping the Kraken defeat Florida 4-1 in Sunrise, Fla. to deny the Panthers what would have been a record-setting 12th consecutiv­e home win to start the season.

GOLF: Lawrence wins Joburg Open

South African Thriston Lawrence was declared winner of the Joburg Open in Johannesbu­rg, South Africa, after bad weather caused the tournament to be called off after 36 holes. He hit successive 65s for a two-round total of 130, 12-under.
