QB Hurts hurting for Philly

The Jets entered the weekend unsure of which quarterback they will be facing Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

The Eagles labeled starter Jalen Hurts, who suffered a sprained ankle last week against the Giants, as questionable on Friday. Earlier in the week, Hurts had been confident about his ability to play against the Jets, but Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni cast some doubt on that Friday.

“We still got time to make that decision,” Sirianni told reporters when asked who would start. “We still have a little less than 48 hours to let the body heal, see what’s going on a little bit more. “It’s an unknown right now.” Sirianni said he felt confident in both Hurts and backup Gardner Minshew, depending on whose number is ultimately called.

The Jets saw Hurts up close over the summer, when they held joint training camp practices with the Eagles, and he left an impression on head coach Robert Saleh.

“When they were here in the summer, I was actually shocked at Jalen’s ability to throw the football,” Saleh said. “He’s a lot better than I thought. He’s a very, very talented young man and the whole offense kind of stems off of his abilities and all the different things they can do, from RPOs [run-pass options] to zone reads to power run game, then be able to drop back and throw the football and his off-schedule stuff, it’s a tremendous challenge. Something you can see they’ve been getting better at.”

➤ Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins missed a third straight practice Friday with a knee injury and is listed as doubtful for Sunday.

“Rankins, he’s not looking good for the weekend,” Saleh said. “We’re trying to get him going. It just doesn’t look like he’s going to make it.”

➤ TE Trevon Wesco (ankle) did not practice and is doubtful for Sunday. … DL Folorunso Fatukasi (back), DL John Franklin-Myers (hip), LB Quincy Williams (calf ) and OT Morgan Moses (knee) all practiced fully and are listed as questionable.
