BIGGEST BUSTS AT HOOTERS

Pathetic pickup lines

- By SAMANTHA IBRAHIM

There’s not a lot of originality coming from the booths of Hooters, it turns out.

A waitress who works for the famous beer and wings chain revealed what she and her scantily clad colleagues are sick of hearing from customers.

The worker — who has chosen to remain anonymous — revealed to Insider how she has replied to the creepiest patrons, and their lame attempts to woo her.

In response to a guest who asked, “Are you on the menu?” the waitress just fake-laughed to ease the tension, she said.

Her internal monologue? “Hahaha. OK, whatever, Grandpa.”

She added that she regularly overhears irksome sexual comments from patrons.

One eye-roll-inducing line she regularly hears: “‘Why aren’t you smiling?’”

“You’re actively working, running around doing something, going back and forth and someone will literally stop me and say, ‘Why aren’t you smiling? Just smile more. Aren’t you happy to be here?’ ”

The waitress, a black woman, added that she often gets the comment, “I like me some hot chocolate.”

“‘I love me a nice, dark feisty girl,’ fetish-y phrases, I’ll get those sometimes,” she said.

Still, ignoring comments like those can be a lucrative part of the job, the waitress said, noting that she once trained another server to make three-figure tips, in part by ignoring the sexist comments male customers make.

There are also instances where she knows that she won’t get a tip from patrons when they order a single glass of water.

“I’m not saying you can’t order water, but if there is a single guy or a giant group of teenagers and they all order water, no food, I automatically know I’m not about to get a tip,” she said.

The worker touched on other phrases frequently directed toward her. She often hears that “Hooters is a strip club” and that “Hooters Girls are dumb.” She explained that many women just work at the restaurant as a side gig to earn extra money.

“I have a master’s degree — this is my side job,” she said. “My manager from my first store was getting her nursing degree while she was a Hooters girl.”

Hooters has gotten some backlash this past year, especially over its skimpy outfits. In October, workers were forced to wear shorts that barely covered their backsides. The company later reversed its policy on the dress code.

“As we continue to listen and update the image of the Hooters Girls, we are clarifying that they have the option to choose from traditional uniforms or the new ones,” a Hooters America rep wrote in an e-mail to Insider.

“They can determine which style of shorts best fits their body style and personal image.”
