DUNKING ON AN 8TH GRADER!

Durant’s Twitter foul

- By RYAN GLASSPIEGEL

An eighth-grade basketball player felt hurt after Kevin Durant attacked the kid’s move on Twitter — seemingly out of the blue. Knowing the Internet, one might think the middle-schooler dished out hate to Durant (inset) but couldn’t take it in return. Instead, it was actually a circumstance where the Nets superstar took a random shot at a kid’s viral highlight video.

Calls them like he sees them

After the social account @Overtime shared a move of 13-year-old Jayden Moore, from suburban Minneapolis, missing a turnaround jumper following a couple of slick dribbles, Durant quotetweeted the video, writing, “This s--t stinks.” Responding to a user who told him it was just a kid, Durant replied, “It’s about habits man.”

Mom: Oh, be nice

Durant’s tweets caused a pile-on, and now the video has been viewed more than 5 million times.

Jayden told USA Today that he was “hurt and confused” by the small forward going after him.

“Like, what made him take time out of his day to say something negative instead of encouraging me or telling what really needs to be done and then texting me privately or something like that,” Jayden said.

Jayden’s mother, Valeta, told the newspaper that she had instructed her son not to take the criticism personally. “I was going to say, ‘Why’s KD being so mean? It’s the week of Christmas,’ ” she said.

Jayden’s coach, Ken Novak, said, “There’s almost an immaturity with them to take the time to even go on Twitter and look at that and comment. In fairness to them, I’m sure they’re trying to create what they see as better basketball, people sharing. And maybe they’re making a comment trying to say that. But they just got to realize who they’ re saying it to .”

Novak added that Jayden is an unselfish player.

Kid’s got a nice rebound

Jayden, who had seen the spin move on Instagram and bet his father $10 he could execute it in a game, ultimately responded to Durant on Twitter.

“Thanks for the constructive criticism,” Jayden tweeted. “I’ve grown from my 6th grade year! Maybe we can work on some stuff together!! All love. Hopefully I can get to where you at one day! #keepgrinding.”

Durant apparently has extra time for Twitter lately, as he is one of many Nets currently in the NBA’s COVID protocol. On Wednesday, it was announced that the team’s third straight game had been postponed.
