The February death of former NFL wide receiver Vincent Jackson was due to chronic alcohol use, the Hillsborough County (Fla.) Medical Examiner announced Wednesday. The medical examiner ruled the death “natural.” Jackson, who was 38, was found dead in a hotel room in Brandon, Fla.

Earlier this week, the Concussion Legacy Foundation announced that Jackson was diagnosed with Stage 2 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the progressive brain disease that has affected many football players.

The Colts led the way with seven Pro Bowl selections when the rosters were announced Wednesday evening. The Colts’ Pro Bowlers include star running back Jonathan Taylor, one of the leading contenders for NFL Most Valuable Player, and standout linebacker Darius Leonard.

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady set an NFL record with his 15th Pro Bowl nod. The Chiefs and Chargers had six selections each, including Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Los Angeles signal-caller Justin Herbert.

Browns second-year coach Kevin Stefanski cleared COVID-19 protocols Wednesday and returned to the team after missing Monday’s 16-14 home loss to Las Vegas. Stefanski also sat out the Browns’ playoff win at Pittsburgh last season after testing positive.

Browns tight end Austin Hooper and linebacker Jacob Phillips also returned, but starting rookie cornerback Greg Newsome was added to the COVID-19 list. He has missed the past two games with a concussion.

The Chargers added standout running back Austin Ekeler and receiver Jaylen Guyton to the COVID-19 list, but coach Brandon Staley was optimistic both can return to play Sunday against Houston.

Raiders safety Jonathan Abram is done for the season, it was determined Wednesday, and will have surgery Thursday to repair a shoulder injury.
