Saleh, 9 others out of COVID protocols

- By BRIAN COSTELLO

Robert Saleh is back.

The Jets coach returned to the team’s training center on Wednesday after a week away while dealing with COVID-19. Saleh said he cleared the COVID protocols on Tuesday night and was back in the building Wednesday morning.

“It’s like the first day of school,” Saleh said. “Ready to go another 18 weeks.”

Saleh tested positive for COVID last Wednesday. He did not coach in Sunday’s win over the Jaguars. Tight ends coach Ron Middleton served as the team’s acting coach.

The Jets also had nine players come off of the reserve/COVID-19 list, including six on the active roster. Cornerback Michael Carter II, defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi, quarterback Joe Flacco, defensive tackle Jonathan Marshall, linebacker Hamsah Nasirildeen and tight end Kenny Yeboah all came off the list. The Jets have 17 players left on the COVID list.

Saleh said the COVID issues of the last week have not distracted the Jets.

“What I love is the character of our locker room and the way they’ve attacked this and the way they’ve kept the spirits up and the way the Zoom meetings have been very interactive,” Saleh said. “Guys have a tremendous mindset to them, they’ve been completely locked in. Normalcy, hopefully that’s around the corner now, we’re down the home stretch with everything that’s happened around the world recently with Omicron and all that. The locker room is in a good place and ready to attack Sunday.”

➤ Veteran RT Morgan Moses said rookie QB Zach Wilson has become more vocal as the season has gone on and is starting to expect things from his teammates.

“You see a guy that’s getting better every week,” Moses said. “He’s professional on and off the field. The thing I’m starting to learn about him is as he is getting comfortable, he’s learning how to demand greatness out of everyone around him. When you have that type of player under center that demands greatness from every position, the sky’s the limit for our offense.”

➤ WR Jamison Crowder (calf) did not practice Wednesday and is “50/50” for Sunday, according to Saleh. … Rookie WR Elijah Moore (quad) remains on the COVID list and has not been activated from IR yet. Saleh said Moore is “50/50” too for Sunday. … The Jets signed LB Javin White to the active roster off of the Raiders practice squad.
