SINEAD’S ANGUISH
Rages at Irish officials over son’s death
Sinead O’Connor lashed out at authorities in Ireland on Saturday, blaming them for the death of her troubled 17-year-old son.
“May God forgive the Irish State for I never will,” the Irish singer tweeted, while announcing that she had identified her son’s remains.
Shane O’Connor (pictured at right with Sinead) had been on suicide watch in a Dublin-area hospital when he went missing this week, the performer, 55, said in another tweet.
The teen’s body was discovered Friday in the coastal town of Bray, just south of Dublin. The cause of death had not been released.
“When I am ready I will be telling exactly how the Irish State in the ignorant, evil, self-serving, lying forms of Tusla and the HSE enabled and facilitated his death,” O’Connor wrote.
Tusla and the Health Service Executive are Ireland’s child-care and health-services agencies.
“Like, how has a seventeen year old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hospital’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing???” she tweeted soon after learning that Shane disappeared.
“Hospital of course so far refusing to take any responsibility.”
On Saturday, she tweeted: “26 hours after my son died in the so called care of the Irish State in the form of Tusla, I have yet to receive any contact from Tusla or their representatives.”
She later reported discussions with the agency but accused it of “a load of lies.”
Shane had a history of disappearing.
“My sweet 14 yr old son has been going missing a lot and is currently missing for the last two days,” O’Connor had tweeted in 2019, days before he was found safe, according to The Independent.
Last year, Shane’s father, Irish folk singer Donal Lunny, noted the impact that pandemic shutdowns had on their family.
“In Dublin, within shouting distance, I have my daughter, Cora, and son, Shane,” Lunny said on Ireland’s “The
Late Late Show,” according to RSVPLive. “We don’t get to see each other, and we’re just up and down the road, so we might as well be far away from each other. So it’s tricky. It’s tough.”
O’Connor made a heartbreaking appeal directly to her son over Twitter on Thursday. “My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop it from beating. Please don’t harm yourself,” she wrote. She reported his death Friday.
“My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” she wrote. “May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
O’Connor has been married four times and has three other children, according to reports. She shared custody of Shane with Lunny, The Sun said.
