Who’s got next?
The Giants are in the market for a new general manager after officially parting ways with Dave Gettleman on Monday. Here is a list of candidates (there will be more) whom the Giants have reached out to for interviews as they look to fill the most important football position in the organization:
RYAN COWDEN, TITANS VP OF PLAYER PERSONNEL
With 22 years of NFL experience, Cowden has the sort of extensive scouting background the Giants prefer. He was with the Panthers for 16 years and spent the past six years with the Titans.
RYAN POLES, CHIEFS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL
Poles, 36, is considered to be a fast-riser in the industry. He was an offensive lineman at Boston College and has been with the Chiefs for 12 years. He works closely with highly regarded Brett Veach in Kansas City.
JOE SCHOEN, BILLS ASSISTANT GM
He interviewed for the GM openings last year with the Panthers and Falcons. Schoen is a large part of
Buffalo’s recent success and is wellsteeped in NFL and college evaluation.
He is a GM-inwaiting for someone out there.
MONTI OSSENFORT, TITANS DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL
Put this one in the “Find someone to work well with Joe Judge’’ category. Ossenfort and Judge were together with the Patriots for eight years and have a strong relationship. Ossenfort went to the Titans in 2020 and last year nearly landed the Panthers GM job. He has extensive experience in college and pro scouting.
ADAM PETERS, 49ERS ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER
He earned two Super Bowl rings as a scouting assistant with the Patriots and spent eight years, mostly as a college scout, with the Broncos. For the past four years, Peters has helped the 49ers add to their talent pool. He was a defensive end at UCLA.
RAN CARTHON,
49ERS DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL
Like Peters, Carthon joined John Lynch’s 49ers front office in 2017. Carthon played running back at Florida and with the Colts and has previously worked in personnel with the Falcons and Rams. He is the 40-year-old son of former Giants fullback and two-time Super Bowl champion Maurice Carthon.
ADRIAN WILSON, CARDINALS VP OF PRO PERSONNEL
Wilson played for the Patriots in 2013 when Judge was in New England on Bill Belichick’s staff, so there is a connection there. Wilson, a former safety, joined the Cardinals’ front office in 2015.
